GTA 6 on Switch 2: Former Rockstar Dev Crushes Fan Hopes

26 September 2026
Don't count on cruising Vice City on Nintendo's upcoming handheld console. A former Rockstar Games developer recently shared his thoughts on a possible GTA 6 release for the Switch 2. His verdict is straight to the point: even if a port were technically achievable, doing so would make almost no sense. The core issue comes down to hardware constraints. GTA VI is engineered to be a massive technological showcase for PS5 and Xbox Series hardware. Scaling down such a giant, detailed, and system-heavy open world to run smoothly on a mobile chip would demand massive graphic and functional downgrades. According to the former developer, the huge amount of time and budget required for that level of optimization just isn't worth the trouble. Players would likely end up with a severely compromised version that ruins the studio's vision. Bottom line: if you want to experience Vice City on November 19, 2026, stick to current-gen home consoles.
