Behind the masterpiece: crunch and tension at Rockstar

8 July 2026
You can be desperate for GTA 6 and still refuse to look away. New internal accounts describe crunch periods at Rockstar, pay inequality, and bonus practices experienced as pressure. This isn't a new accusation. The studio has carried the reputation since Red Dead Redemption 2, when management itself mentioned hundred-hour weeks — before walking it back. Why it matters even if you're just here to play: "impossible" games like GTA 6 don't come from nowhere. That level of polish has a price, and people pay it. What it doesn't mean: boycott, guilt, or pretending you don't want the game. That would be hypocritical, and it would help nobody. What it does mean: not telling the legend of the genius studio without ever mentioning the people who build it. We'd rather be a clear-eyed fan site.
