GTA 6 Is Finally Ditching the X Button Sprinting Mechanics
Say goodbye to thumb cramps. For a quarter of a century, sprinting in any Grand Theft Auto game meant one thing: violently mashing the X button (or A on Xbox) until your finger gave out. Rockstar Games is finally retiring this outdated mechanic for GTA 6.
Recent details reveal that the studio has overhauled the running controls. No more frantic button-bashing while trying to escape a four-star wanted level in Vice City. A more modern and fluid input scheme will now seamlessly send Lucia and Jason into a full sprint.
It might sound like a small tweak on paper, but it fundamentally upgrades moment-to-moment gameplay. Your thumb—and your PS5 or Xbox Series controller—will definitely thank Rockstar come November 19, 2026.
