GTA 6 Overhauls Its Formula: Character Swaps, Controls, and RPG Features

Forget what you remember about instantly swapping characters in GTA V. Rockstar confirmed that GTA 6 won't let you switch between Jason and Lucia whenever you want. The studio is detailing tighter mechanics to make character swaps feel more natural and tied to the story. That isn't the only major shake-up. After 25 years of legacy controls, the game is finally updating how you play with a controller. Controls are getting a complete revamp to modernize moment-to-moment gunplay and movement across Vice City. On top of that, a deeper RPG system is being integrated into the gameplay loop. Between character progression and revamped controls, Rockstar is aiming for a brand-new experience when the game drops on November 19, 2026.
